Jim has been a artist blacksmith for over 30 years and is well known for his hand forged metal work. In his blacksmith shop on the Falkenburg Road, Jim pounds out hundreds of useful and decorative black-metal items. Jim’s work bears the mark of skillful attention and craftsmanship. Born in Brampton, Jim moved as a child to Port Carling, Ontario, and attended Bracebridge High School where he studied welding. He soon decided that manipulating hot metal would be his life’s work. Three years ago, he and his wife Lisa built their studio on Falkenburg Road. While retaining much of the nostalgia of an old-time blacksmith shop, Jim’s studio is bright and neat with some modern features.
Wanting to be able to work with metal and wood, Jim decided to start making live edge black cherry cutting boards and utensils. This allowed Jim to purchase a saw mill and saw his own lumber from his back yard and locally sourced cherry wood. Drawn to cherry wood for its deep rich colors and design. Every board is unique and one of a kind pieces. |
